PT Laksana Bus Manufaktur is taking strategic steps to maintain the momentum of national bodywork business growth. Amid a slowing demand trend for vehicle modifications for Inter-City Inter-Province (AKAP) buses, tourism, and institutional buses, the company is now turning its attention to product diversification into more specific segments such as mining buses and electric-powered buses (EVs).
Stefan Arman, Technical Director of PT Laksana Bus Manufaktur, explained that the transition toward the electric vehicle era and the need for specialized mining fleets represent crucial market opportunities. This effort is being undertaken to keep business operations moving amidst changing transport industry preferences that increasingly demand efficiency and environmental friendliness.
In addition to strengthening the domestic market, the company is also committed to boosting overseas expansion. Currently, the export market contribution accounts for only 5% of total production capacity. Moving forward, Laksana targets broader market penetration into several countries, including Thailand, South Asia, and Timor-Leste.
Despite high optimism, Laksana emphasizes the importance of an active government role to maintain the competitiveness of the domestic bodywork industry. The expected support includes easier access to financing for business expansion and conducive regulatory certainty, enabling industry players to focus more on improving innovation and product quality on the international stage.
