Residents of Bangsal Hamlet, Gunung Eleh Village, Kedungdung District, Sampang Regency, were shocked by an unusual natural phenomenon. A mysterious rumbling sound has reportedly been heard continuously from underground in a local rice field area, triggering both concern and curiosity among the local community.
The sound, which resembles splashing flowing water, originates from a single point in the percaton (village-owned) agricultural land. The land is currently being cultivated by two residents of Pelampean Hamlet, namely Sadiri (50) and Agusyanto (30). According to residents, this phenomenon has actually been going on for quite a long time, but with an irregular frequency of occurrence.
Responding to public concern, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sampang Regency, along with representatives from the local Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), immediately went directly to the location. This prompt action was taken to conduct an initial observation to identify the exact cause of the vibration or sound originating from beneath the soil surface.
An examination at the coordinates where the sound emerged is expected to provide scientific clarity for the residents. Until now, the relevant parties are still coordinating and conducting periodic monitoring to anticipate if this phenomenon has the potential to cause disaster impacts in the future.
