Facing the challenge of managing over 30,000 hectares of land with rugged terrain, the Dau Tieng Protection Forest Management Board has taken a major leap forward by adopting digital technology. This step was taken to overcome the limitations of the manual patrol system, which has been the main obstacle in detecting land encroachment and potential forest fires early on.
The surveillance system is now reinforced with a comprehensive technology network that includes 24/7 surveillance cameras on main towers, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and thermal imaging sensors. This advanced equipment allows field teams to monitor the situation in real time from the control center, enabling any suspicious movement or hotspot to be quickly identified and addressed before spreading.
In addition to physical monitoring devices, data integration is carried out through the WebGIS-based ForestGuard platform. This digital system unifies crucial information, ranging from patrol routes to mapping vulnerable areas, enabling more precise and scientific operational decision-making. Inter-agency collaboration also runs more effectively thanks to coordination based on accurate data.
Moving forward, the management plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically analyze data and predict forest degradation threats. This digital transformation not only creates a stronger green shield for environmental conservation but also serves as a model for smart forest management adaptive to future environmental challenges.
