Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung, was once again observed exhibiting volcanic activity on Monday (6/7/2026). The eruption, which occurred in the afternoon, was recorded spewing a column of volcanic ash up to a height of 150 meters above the crater peak.
According to an official report from the Mount Anak Krakatau Observation Post, between 12:00 and 18:00 WIB, the volcano—currently at Level III (Alert) status—was seen emitting white crater smoke. The smoke intensity varied from thin, medium, to thick, with fluctuating heights between 10 and 150 meters.
Observation officer Muhammad Dika Nurzaman explained that visual conditions of the volcano were fairly clear, despite occasionally being covered by fog. Weather in the surrounding area was reported to be conducive with weak winds blowing northwest, while sea wave conditions around the area were observed to be calm.
In addition to visual activity, seismograph instruments recorded significant seismic activity, including 24 harmonic tremors of varying durations and one distant tectonic earthquake. This data indicates that subterranean volcanic dynamics remain active.
In response to these conditions, authorities reiterated that the public, tourists, and fishermen must continue to observe the exclusion zone. A safety radius of 3 kilometers from the active crater has been established to mitigate the risk of eruption hazards that could threaten safety at any time.
