Indonesia's political dynamics throughout the 2024–2029 period are predicted to rely on three fundamental pillars: strengthening domestic power consolidation, shifting the political economy paradigm, and navigating geopolitical strategies amidst global power competition. This assessment was delivered by Political Science Lecturer at Surabaya State University (UNESA) and CEO of Sygma Research and Consulting, Ken Bimo Sultoni, during a public discussion titled "BISIK-BIPALA" at UNESA's Faculty of Economics and Business on Saturday (16/5/2026).
Ken Bimo noted the post-election big coalition trend, which is considered capable of providing governmental stability. However, he warned that such stability should not erode the function of the opposition and the system of checks and balances, which are the lifeblood of a democratic system. For him, the essence of democracy is not merely a voting ceremonial, but how power is exercised with principles of strict accountability and oversight.
Regarding the national economic direction, Ken Bimo emphasized the importance of sustainability in the industrial downstreaming agenda and the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). He stressed that efforts to accelerate economic growth must go hand in hand with environmental preservation and the strengthening of national technological independence to reinforce food and energy sovereignty autonomously.
On the other hand, in facing the rivalry between the United States and China, Indonesia is seen as having taken strategic steps through a hedging policy. By maintaining the principles of a free and active foreign policy, Indonesia is considered to possess a unique bargaining position as a 'bridge builder'. This active role in global diplomacy is believed to be an important asset for Indonesia to expand its influence on the international stage.
