Garut Regency has once again enriched its natural tourism treasures with the presence of its latest hiking destination, Mount Canar Talaga Bodas. Officially opened to the public since December 2025, this area offers a new alternative for nature lovers who want to enjoy the beauty of the East Priangan landscape from a different perspective. Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,083 meters above sea level (masl), this mountain presents a direct panoramic view of the iconic Talaga Bodas tourism area.
Unlike some of the popular mountains in Garut such as Cikuray or Guntur which require extra stamina, Mount Canar offers a friendlier trail. Hikers only need about 2.5 to 3 hours to reach the summit. This relatively short estimated time makes Mount Canar an ideal choice, both for beginner hikers and tourists who simply want to go on a short hike without having to stay overnight.
Along the hiking route, visitors will be pampered by the cool mountain air and lush green vegetation. Upon reaching the summit, the fatigue of the journey is immediately paid off by the landscape of the Talaga Bodas crater stretching beautifully below. Not a few tourists deliberately hike starting in the early hours of the morning to catch the captivating sunrise amidst the quiet natural atmosphere.
For visitors interested in trying this trail, the management has established strict daily operational regulations. Registration for regular hiking is open from 03:00 to 11:00 WIB. Meanwhile, for tourists who want to camp, registration is open from 03:00 to 16:00 WIB. The entrance ticket price is set at a budget-friendly rate of IDR 25,000 per person.
Despite its status as a new destination, the supporting facilities at Mount Canar are already adequate to support outdoor activities. The management has provided a vehicle parking area, a representative camping ground, and the presence of food stalls at several hiking posts. The completeness of these facilities certainly provides an extra sense of safety and comfort, making it a weekend destination worth trying.
