The Faculty of Medicine of the Universitas Islam Indonesia (FK UII) has once again strengthened the national health sector by inaugurating 14 new doctors at the 72nd Doctor's Oath ceremony held at the 4th Floor Auditorium of FK UII, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This inauguration marks an important milestone, with the university's total medical alumni now reaching 2,688. Interestingly, this period's graduates were dominated by women at over 70 percent, with dr. Nida Fauziyah emerging as the best graduate, achieving a near-perfect professional Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.95.
In her speech, the Dean of FK UII, dr. Umatul Khoiriyah, M.Med.Ed., Ph.D., reminded the new doctors to always prioritize humanistic values and humility in serving the community. She emphasized the importance of listening deeply to patients' complaints and avoiding professional arrogance. According to her, the healing aspect of a patient relies not only on medication and medical procedures, but also on empathy and sincerity of intention as a form of worship.
Facing the era of digital health, the Vice Rector for Academic, Recognition, and Admission Affairs of UII, Prof. Riyanto, Ph.D., stated that today's doctors must be adaptive to modern technological developments, including artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and bioinformatics. This multidisciplinary mastery is expected to help make more precise, evidence-based medical decisions. To support national specialist needs, FK UII is also currently developing the Clinical Pathology Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS) and preparing the Pediatric PPDS.
In addition to technological readiness, the challenges and opportunities in the medical business sector were also highlighted during this inauguration. Healthcare industry opportunities, such as circumcision services worth trillions of rupiah to the trend of aesthetic clinics, continue to grow rapidly. Nevertheless, the quality of specialist medical education, both university-based and hospital-based, must be strictly monitored to maintain graduate competency standards at the national level.
An emotional atmosphere filled the ceremony when the representative of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) for the DIY Region paid a special tribute to the parents and supervising lecturers in attendance. The new doctors, who will soon undergo an internship program, are expected to bring positive change to society with solid moral integrity and scientific knowledge.
