SLB Negeri Gedangan has taken a progressive step in the world of inclusive education by equipping its educators with cutting-edge technology. A total of 50 teachers participated in a special workshop to delve into programming (coding) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the school's hall on Friday (24/7/2026).
The event, themed "My Teacher, My Hero," was held following the school's selection as a Model School for Deep Learning (PM), Coding, and Artificial Intelligence (KKA). This program is designed to create more adaptive, interactive, and relevant learning methods for students with special needs.
The Principal of SLB Negeri Gedangan, Puguh Sudarminto, explained that the adoption of this technology aims to accelerate digital transformation within the special education environment. According to him, AI and coding are positioned as creative tools to personalize the students' learning process, while teachers remain the primary driving force in education.
As a foundation for the long-term program, the school also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Computer Science at Brawijaya University and Hero Academy. This strategic partnership will cover teacher competency development, learning innovation research, and community service programs.
This initiative received full support from the Head of the East Java Provincial Education Office, Dr. Aries Agung Paewai. He emphasized that the presence of AI technology will never replace the central role and affection of a teacher, but rather serve as an important bridge for special needs students to achieve equal future opportunities.
During the workshop, the educators were directly guided by academics and expert practitioners. Rekyan Regarsari Mardi Putri from Brawijaya University reviewed the basic concepts of AI, Muhammad Makarim introduced unplugged coding methods, and Itsar Irsyada Syurga assisted in the practice of creating interactive videos based on Google AI. Through this program, SLB Negeri Gedangan is committed to pioneering digital innovations that can be replicated by other special needs schools in East Java.
