Good news for nature lovers: the Mount Hauk hiking trail, located in Ajung Village, Tebing Tinggi District, Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan, is now officially reopened to the public. This reopening comes after management temporarily closed access to conduct an internal evaluation and improve the service management system for hikers.
The Head of Ajung Village, Suwandi, emphasized that going forward, the hiking trail's operations will run more stably without periodic closures. Exceptions will only be made during traditional local community ceremonies. Suwandi assured that these cultural activities would not disrupt visitors' comfort, as they are scheduled on weekdays, whereas peak tourist visits typically occur on weekends.
Currently, the Karang Bintang Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) is coordinating intensively with the Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office (Disporapar) of Balangan Regency. This strategic step was taken to finalize regional development plans, ranging from upgrading supporting facilities in the hiking area to improving accessibility to the location so it becomes more visitor-friendly.
The village government also expressed its apologies for any inconvenience caused during the trail closure period. Through these series of improvements, it is hoped that public enthusiasm for visiting Mount Hauk will grow, bringing a positive impact on the local economy.
As part of the commitment to preserving the destination, management urges all hikers to always maintain cleanliness, respect available facilities, and adhere to local customary norms and regulations in the Ajung Village area.
