Strengthening the commitment to developing sports in the region, the Sorong City Government attended the 2026 Extraordinary Provincial Sports Consultation (Musorprovlub) of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) of Southwest Papua Province. This strategic agenda took place at the Rylich Panorama Hotel, Sorong City, on Wednesday (29/7/2026).
On this occasion, the Mayor of Sorong was represented by the Head of the Sorong City Youth and Sports Department (Dispora), Ramses Rudyard Kawalu Malibela, S.H. The presence of the local government representative underscores full support for the organization of sports institutions to cultivate high-achieving athletes from the Southwest Papua region.
The event was also attended directly by the Governor of Southwest Papua Province, Elisa Kambu, S.Sos., along with members of the local Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda). The presence of the General Chairperson of the Central KONI, retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, added to the legitimacy of the forum's importance in laying a solid foundation for sports achievements in Indonesia's youngest province.
