The momentum of the 70th anniversary or the 14th Lustrum of SMP Negeri 6 Purworejo marks a new milestone for the school to realize a new facility. The Principal of SMPN 6 Purworejo, Wahyu Kurnia Lestari, emphasized her commitment to building an indoor sports hall (GOR) to support the students' physical activities.
Wahyu expressed this hope directly during the peak of the school's anniversary reception held on Sunday (2/8/2026). The event was also attended by the Head of the Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) of Purworejo Regency, Yudhie Agung Prihatno, school supervisors, representatives of the School Principals' Working Group (MKKS), and alumni.
In her speech, Wahyu revealed that the school had previously received government assistance, including access stairs to the back field and the construction of a warehouse in 2024. However, the warehouse collapsed due to extreme weather during the last rainy season. Therefore, she invited the relevant agency and the alumni association to collaborate in utilizing the former basketball court land at the lower part of the school into an indoor sports hall.
According to Wahyu, this seven-decade journey is an important reflection for all school members to continue maintaining the achievements carved by their predecessors. She hopes this lustrum moment can serve as a catalyst for collective spirit in facing modern educational challenges.
Responding to this aspiration, the Head of Purworejo Disdikbud, Yudhie Agung Prihatno, expressed his support. Yudhie explained that the central government is currently promoting a revitalization program for tens of thousands of schools in Indonesia. His office will strive to make SMPN 6 Purworejo one of the beneficiaries of the central budget.
In addition to relying on government assistance, Yudhie also emphasized the importance of the active role of alumni in working together to build the school. He reminded that the School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds are limited, making external participation crucial to support student activities that are not accommodated by the state budget.
