BPJS Kesehatan Sorong Branch reported that the total cost of healthcare services for National Health Insurance (JKN) participants in Sorong City has reached IDR 77 billion as of June 2026. This medical expenditure figure stands in stark contrast to the total contributions collected from all membership segments in the region, which only reached around IDR 12.5 billion.
The Head of BPJS Kesehatan Sorong Branch, Nurullah Hanafi, revealed that this significant disparity between service operational costs and contribution revenue demands tactical measures. To address this, his office is urging the Sorong City Government and stakeholders to immediately optimize the budget allocation for JKN membership, especially for the Non-Wage Earners (PBPU) and Non-Workers (BP) segments funded by the local government.
One of the concrete solutions offered is the implementation of a contribution sharing system involving third parties, including the private sector, community groups, and individuals. Through this formula, the membership contribution burden of IDR 35,000 per person for PBPU and local government-funded BP can be shared between the local government and external partners based on agreements.
Nurullah added that this co-financing cooperation will be formalized through a written agreement adjusted to the current fiscal year. This dynamic mechanism allows for periodic annual evaluations, while also opening opportunities for regional hospitals and community organizations to enroll their members collectively.
In addition to the contribution sharing scheme, BPJS Kesehatan Sorong is also intensifying the Pesiar Program to reach residents who have not yet been covered by the national health insurance. Concurrently, regular socialization at the sub-district level and simplification of adding new family members continue to be optimized to ensure sustainable public health protection.
