The XXV/2026 Lima Gunung Festival, held in Warangan Hamlet, Muneng Warangan Village, Magelang, served as an appreciation stage for local art figures. The Five Mountains Community (Komunitas Lima Gunung / KLG) officially presented the "Lima Gunung Award 2026" to legendary sinden, Sukitri (81), for her relentless devotion to safeguarding Javanese artistic traditions.
Cultural observer and KLG founder, Sutanto Mendut, stated that this award is a recognition of Mbah Kitri's consistency over decades as a sinden (traditional singer), dancer, and gamelan musician. The legacy of her extended family, who have engaged in the world of pedalangan across generations, stands as tangible proof of their vital role in cultural preservation.
Due to her advanced age and physical condition, Mbah Kitri was unable to attend the event in person. The award was subsequently accepted by her son, Triyono, who is also a dalang (master puppeteer). The handover of the certificate, signed by key KLG figures, took place solemnly amidst the highlight of the festival, which was independently organized by farmer-artists from five mountains in Central Java.
Triyono expressed his gratitude and pride for the recognition given to his mother. He emphasized that his extended family remains committed to passing down a love for traditional arts, particularly karawitan and pedalangan, to future generations as an expression of gratitude to God.
This year's festival carried a unique theme, "Makin Goblok Bareng" (Getting Foolish Together), which holds a philosophical message about humility when facing life's dynamics. The event, involving 85 art groups with over a thousand performers, presented a variety of shows ranging from traditional dances to fine arts exhibitions, held in the agricultural area on the slopes of Mount Merbabu.
