Commission IV of the Samarinda City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is encouraging the Department of Youth, Sports, and Tourism (Disporapar) to optimize the management of government-owned sports assets. This strategic step is considered crucial for increasing Regional Original Revenue (PAD) while revitalizing the economic ecosystem in Samarinda through various sporting activities.
Chairman of Commission IV of the Samarinda DPRD, Mohammad Novan Syahronny Pasie, emphasized that investing in sports facilities and infrastructure is key. According to him, with adequate and high-standard facilities, the government can attract interest in hosting sports events at both regional and national levels. This is believed to create a positive domino effect for the hospitality and culinary sectors, as well as the empowerment of local MSMEs.
Novan explained that the PAD target for the sector managed by the UPTD Disporapar in 2026 is set at IDR 1.6 billion. As of mid-this year, revenue realization has reached IDR 757 million, derived from retributions on various assets, including parking management at GOR Segiri. The legislature remains optimistic that the annual target can be achieved, despite existing budgetary constraints in facility maintenance.
In addition to focusing on revenue, Commission IV is also paying special attention to preparations for the East Kalimantan Provincial Sports Week (Porprov), scheduled for November 2026. Increasing the budget for athlete development programs and contingent preparation is a priority point to be discussed in upcoming APBD budget adjustments to ensure Samarinda's sports performance is maintained.
