KEFAMENANU - Brotherly relations in the border area of Indonesia and Timor Leste have once again been strengthened through sports. The Regent of Timor Tengah Utara (TTU), Yosep Falentinus Delasalle Kebo, officially opened a friendly football match between the Kefamenanu U-40 Legend Team and the Cafe Ermera U-40 Legend Team from Timor Leste at the Oemanu Field, Saturday (1/8/2026).
The opening of the match was marked by a kickoff by the TTU Regent, witnessed by the Chairman of Askab PSSI TTU Solarman K. Tusi, Special Staff for Public Relations and Development Elias Koa, as well as other regional officials. In the match, which was held with high sportsmanship, the hosts Legend U-40 Kefamenanu successfully secured a victory with a final score of 4–1.
In his speech, Regent Yosep Falentinus expressed his deep appreciation for the visit of the team from Timor Leste to TTU Regency. For him, the presence of the sports delegation from the neighboring country is not just about winning or losing, but an important momentum to strengthen the brotherhood of the people living on Timor Island.
Furthermore, the Regent emphasized that administrative state borders should not be a barrier to social and cultural interactions. Historical relations, similarities in customs, shared language, and long-standing family values serve as a strong foundation uniting people on both sides of the border.
Through this sports diplomacy, he hopes that bilateral cooperation at the local level can continue to develop into various other strategic sectors. Potential sectors such as education, tourism, culture, trade, and youth are expected to be further boosted for mutual prosperity in the future.
Closing his remarks, the Regent, affectionately known as Falent, reminded the players and supporters to always maintain order and the values of sportsmanship. He emphasized that the main essence of this friendly match is an eternal commitment to maintaining peace and togetherness on Timor land.
