The Pontianak City Government continues to take strategic steps to optimize the public health sector. The current main focus includes improving the quality of maternal and child services in welcoming Indonesia's Golden Generation 2045, as well as readiness in responding to local health emergencies.
During the 75th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI), the Mayor of Pontianak, Edi Rusdi Kamtono, emphasized the crucial role of midwives as the front line in safeguarding the safety of mothers and infants. Considering that the birth rate in Pontianak reaches 11,667 in 2025, collaboration between the government and professional organizations is absolutely necessary, especially in monitoring the First 1,000 Days of Life (HPK) to prevent stunting and reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
In line with these efforts, the City Government through the Kom Yos Sudarso Community Health Center (Puskesmas) launched the "Mobile CKG" (Mobile Free Health Check) innovation. This proactive service is available in various public spaces such as minimarkets and busy centers to make it easier for the community to conduct early detection of non-communicable diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, without having to queue at health facilities.
On the other hand, the government's swift response was also evident in handling the food poisoning incident that affected 56 residents in North Pontianak. The Pontianak City Government ensured that all medical treatment costs for victims treated at North Pontianak Regional General Hospital (RSUD) are free of charge. Mayor Edi Rusdi Kamtono instructed the medical team to provide optimal treatment and conduct laboratory tests on food samples as part of further investigation efforts.
These steps reaffirm the commitment of the Pontianak City Government to providing an inclusive, responsive, and easily accessible health system for all levels of society, ranging from prevention through education to effective curative care.
