The Doctoral Study Program in Political Science at Universitas Nasional (UNAS) officially opened a series of academic seminars titled "Geopolitical Conflict and the Threat of Political Crisis in the Prabowo Administration" at UNAS Tower, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/7/2026). This forum serves as a platform for experts and practitioners to dissect Indonesia's position amidst the international political constellation currently undergoing severe turbulence.
The Head of the UNAS Political Science Doctoral Study Program, Associate Professor Dr. T.B. Masa Djafar, M.Si., emphasized that this seminar is an effort by the campus to maintain a critical tradition in guarding nation-building. He stressed that this forum does not side with any political interests, but is purely an objective scientific dialogue space to find solutions to various potential national challenges faced by the administration of President Prabowo Subianto.
Keynote speaker Dr. Fuad Bawazier highlighted the importance of Indonesia building a resilient economic foundation to mitigate the impact of major power rivalry on trade and exchange rates. A similar view was expressed by Prof. Dr. Makarim Wibisono, who reminded of the importance of consistency in a free and active foreign policy as a diplomatic shield to protect national interests amidst the weakening influence of international organizations.
The discussion deepened as speakers, including Prof. Drs. Rusman Ghazali and Dr. Irma Indrayani, reviewed the urgency of implementing Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution. They highlighted the concept of 'Prabowonomics' as an effort to integrate market mechanisms with a strong state role, noting that the success of such policies heavily depends on bureaucratic harmonization and preventing the dominance of oligarchs in natural resource management.
Regarding defense, Dr. Sri Radjasa Chandra and Dr. Selamat Ginting warned of the threat of *hybrid warfare* that could disrupt national stability. According to them, modern threats today mostly take the form of cyber attacks, disinformation, and economic pressure, thus requiring the strengthening of public trust through transparent and adaptive government communication.
This activity is planned to continue into the next seminar series, with the hope that the research and thoughts of UNAS academics can serve as a strategic reference for policymakers in strengthening Indonesia's democracy and sovereignty in the future.
