Mount Anak Krakatau has been observed increasing its volcanic activity over the past week. Based on monitoring data released by officers of the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) under the Geological Agency, the volcano has erupted 18 times since July 2, 2026.
As of Wednesday evening, July 8, 2026, plumes of volcanic smoke were still visible rising from the crater peak located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung. Volcano monitoring authorities continue to closely monitor sub-surface magma movement to ensure the latest situation updates.
The public and fishermen operating around the Mount Anak Krakatau area are urged to remain vigilant and comply with the safety zone designated by the authorities. The local government, along with the Geological Agency, assured that they will continue to provide regular updates to ensure public safety in the coastal areas of South Lampung and its surroundings.
