The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) is striving to make a major transformation in the national sports development system. This step was taken through active participation in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in the United States, which aims to study the governance of a proven sports ecosystem.
NOC Indonesia Chairman, Raja Sapta Oktohari, views the United States as an ideal model given the country's consistency in dominating the top ranks of the Olympic medal standings. According to Okto, the strength of the US lies in managing an integrated system, ranging from talent scouting at a young age to the level of elite professional athletes.
During his visit, Okto highlighted how various sectors—such as academia, organizational management, sports science, and sports marketing—collaborate to create an independent and sustainable sports industry. The involvement of universities through the NCAA system was cited as one of the main keys ensuring a supply of talented athletes to the national level.
Furthermore, Okto emphasized that athletic achievement cannot be reached through fragmented or partial efforts. He stressed that Indonesia must start building a cohesive ecosystem in which all stakeholders play a strategic role in creating a structured pathway to achievement for the nation's athletes.
