Lewis Hamilton demonstrated his world-class quality in front of his home crowd during the Formula 1 British Grand Prix 2026 Sprint Qualifying session on Friday (3/7). The star Ferrari driver successfully secured pole position for the Sprint Race after setting the fastest time at the Silverstone Circuit.
Fierce competition unfolded in the final segment of qualifying, where Hamilton engaged in a tight battle with championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Hamilton ultimately emerged fastest by a crucial margin of just 0.011 seconds ahead of the Mercedes driver.
The 41-year-old driver's impressive performance was evident since the free practice sessions. Despite experiencing a brief handling issue while navigating the final corner in SQ3, his composure and experience allowed Hamilton to stay on course to lock in first place.
The qualifying victory was met with roaring cheers from tens of thousands of fans packing the Silverstone stands. Hamilton shared his emotions after the session, stating that performing on home soil always provides a unique energy and motivation for him.
“I love this place and the fans who are here. Being fastest at Silverstone is a dream that is always special. I keep trying to understand every turn of this circuit to get the absolute best out of the car,” said Hamilton reacting to the qualifying result.
