The silver jubilee celebration of the Festival Lima Gunung officially commenced in Warangan Hamlet, Muneng Warangan Village, Magelang Regency, Central Java, on Friday (10/7/2026). The start of this annual cultural event was marked by a contemporary procession titled 'Nandur Eling' (planting memories), symbolized by the planting of five tree seedlings in the festival area.
Five hamlet figures and cultural activists participated in the sacred procession: Darto, an elder resident; Budiono, the Head of Warangan Hamlet; Solichin, the Secretary of Muneng Warangan Village; Sujono, the Chairman of the Lima Gunung Community (KLG); and cultural figure Sutanto Mendut. The planted tree seedlings included Krengsek, Kersen, Pule, Guava, and Durian, symbolizing gratitude for the natural blessings bestowed by the Creator.
The selection of Warangan Hamlet as the opening venue holds historical significance, as it was the location of the very first festival back in 2002. Under the theme 'Makin Goblok Bareng' (Becoming Foolish Together), the cultural event, running until July 12, 2026, showcases collaborations from 85 art groups featuring a total of over 1,200 performers.
KLG Chairman Sujono emphasized that 'Nandur Eling' is not merely a ceremony, but a reminder for the community to safeguard local wisdom, mutual cooperation (gotong royong), and harmony with nature amidst the onslaught of technological modernization. It is hoped that the noble values of the ancestors will remain a strong foundation for future generations despite changing times.
Demonstrating community independence, local residents transformed the hamlet's appearance with decorations made from natural materials such as straw, bamboo, and agricultural waste. Various engaging activities have been prepared, ranging from traditional and contemporary art performances, cultural speeches, and symposiums, to the presentation of the 'Lima Gunung Award' to appreciate art activists.
