Unmanned aerial vehicle technology is entering a new chapter in the exploration of the world's highest mountains. DJI, a global leader in drone technology, has just completed a series of crucial missions on Mount Everest (Mount Qomolangma), encompassing logistics delivery optimization, geospatial mapping, and atmospheric research at previously unreachable altitudes.

In these operational trials, the DJI FlyCart 100 drone demonstrated impressive performance by transporting more than 10 tons of climbing gear and waste from Base Camp to Camp 1. This innovation serves as a vital solution for Sherpas, as a single drone unit can cut travel time—which previously required up to eight hours of hazardous trekking through the Khumbu Icefall—to just eight minutes per flight.

Beyond logistics, DJI deployed the Matrice 4E for high-precision glacier mapping. Equipped with smart sensors and laser rangefinder technology, the drone mapped an area of 3 square kilometers in a matter of hours. The resulting data not only supports safer climbing route planning, but also serves as an early detection tool for potential hazards in snowy terrain that is difficult for humans to reach.

Going beyond operational matters, DJI also facilitated the scientific community by utilizing the EV50 drone for climate change research. In collaboration with Peking University, the drone successfully conducted tropospheric ozone pollutant observations up to an altitude of 8,861 meters. This mission marks a step forward in using autonomous technology for atmospheric research in extreme environments.

DJI spokesperson Christina Zhang emphasized that this achievement reflects the company's ongoing commitment to creating a cleaner and safer climbing environment. Through synergy with local partners and researchers, DJI hopes drone technology will continue to be a vital instrument in supporting nature conservation and future rescue missions, aligned with global initiatives to preserve the world's mountains.
