The forest area in the Tempuran Block, Mount Biru, which is part of the Anjasmoro Mountain range, Mojokerto Regency, has once again been hit by fire. As of Wednesday (15/7/2026) evening, the flames have not yet been subdued due to the very steep geographical terrain leading to the location, making it difficult for the rescue team to reach.
The fire was first detected by Tahura R. Soerjo patrol officers on Tuesday (14/7/2026) afternoon around 17:00 WIB. Dry forest vegetation and shrubs that dominate the RKW 07 conservation area in Kemiri Village, Pacet District, caused the fire to spread rapidly, while the estimated size of the affected area is still being assessed.
The Chief Executive of Mojokerto Regency BPBD, Rinaldi Rizal Sabirin, explained that at least four hotspots were observed to be active in the Mount Biru area. To speed up the handling, dozens of joint personnel from the East Java BPBD TRC, Mojokerto BPBD, Tahura R. Soerjo officers, and volunteers from the Fire Care Community (MPA) were deployed to the location.
To anticipate the situation, BPBD has stationed two firefighting teams at strategic points, namely in the Bukit Cendono area, Pacet District, and Gumeng Village, Gondang District. Nevertheless, Rinaldi assured that the fire does not yet threaten residential areas due to its isolated location high up the mountain. Furthermore, the local community has been equipped with disaster preparedness simulations through the Disaster Resilient Village (Destana) program.
During this response process, officers on the ground are also using drone technology to map the distribution of hotspots from the air to make the team's movements more effective. Several personnel reportedly chose to spend the night around Cendono Peak to directly monitor wind direction and fire movements to minimize wider vegetation damage.
