The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) firmly stated that it will take strict action against all travel operators and Hajj and Umrah Guidance Groups (KBIHU) proven to use the pilgrimage as a business venture. This step was taken in response to President Prabowo Subianto's instruction to preserve the sanctity of worship from commercialization practices that harm the public.
Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, emphasized the need to end all forms of religious modification for economic gain. According to him, every institution must function within the prevailing legal framework. KBIHU, for instance, must return to its core dignity as a guidance institution, not an entity seeking profit outside its main duties.
The government is currently drafting a more comprehensive supervision system to ensure all operators, including travel agencies and Special Hajj Organizers (PIHK), operate transparently. This supervisory measure is designed to provide thorough protection for pilgrims, regarding both service quality and the security of deposited funds.
This crackdown follows government findings regarding alleged fraudulent practices and unauthorized collection of pilgrim funds by certain parties. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is committed to taking decisive action to ensure that future Hajj and Umrah operations are more accountable, transparent, and fully oriented toward protecting the public's rights as pilgrims.
