The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has emphasized the urgency of developing human resources as a core pillar in navigating increasingly complex global technological competition. Amid rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and shifting industrial structures, the quality of local talent is considered a primary determinant of Indonesia's leverage on the international stage.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, stated that the current development focus has shifted from merely providing physical infrastructure to strengthening innovation capacity. He stressed that Indonesia must make every effort to transition from being a technology user to a strategic actor capable of contributing to global supply chains and technology value creation.
"Digital talent is the decisive factor. With competent human resources, we can overcome infrastructure limitations and leap further in digital economy competition," Nezar said during a working visit to BBLSDM Komdigi in Medan on Saturday (7/4/2026).
As a concrete step, Kemkomdigi is actively ramping up strategic collaboration with various universities across the country. Through initiatives such as the AI Talent Factory program, the ministry aims to foster an innovation ecosystem aligned with current industry demands while ensuring equitable access to digital training beyond Java Island.
Beyond technical skills, the government is also equipping young talent with an understanding of the technology geopolitical landscape. This holistic approach is expected to cultivate future innovators who are not only technically proficient but also adaptable to global digital economic dynamics for the advancement of the national economy.
