The Madiun City Hall courtyard, usually the hub of government administrative activities, has dynamically transformed into a gathering center for urban sports communities and creative arts. On Saturday (1/8), the government center area was turned into the competition arena for the Madiun Street Competition 2026, drawing the attention of hundreds of students and local residents.
The event integrates various competitions and exhibitions, ranging from basketball tournaments, skateboarding displays, BMX bike demonstrations, breakdancing, to the creation of mural wall art themed "Madiun Mendunia" (Madiun Goes Global). Various portable sports facilities were intentionally installed in the courtyard to optimally support the participants' performances.
The Acting Mayor of Madiun, F. Bagus Panuntun, officially opened the competition by shooting a basketball directly into the hoop, greeted by cheers from the crowd. Bagus also took the time to interact directly with the participants, review the mural-making process, and even try riding a BMX bike with the community.
The basketball competition in this event was attended by 35 clubs from various age groups. The tournament includes the Under-12 (KU 12) category for elementary school level, Under-15 (KU 15) for junior high school level, and a special category for mothers (Parent Moms). This age grouping is intended as a step towards nurturing and scouting athletic talent from an early age.
The Madiun City Government is committed to continuing to facilitate public spaces for the younger generation to channel their positive talents. As a concrete step forward, the government plans to equip the City Hall courtyard with permanent basketball hoops for the 3x3 category to support the sustainability of sports development in Madiun City.
