The Banda Aceh City Government, through the Transportation Agency, has begun intensive restructuring of the former Keudah Terminal land. This area is projected to transform into a public open space as well as an integrated business center to stimulate local economic growth.
The Head of the Banda Aceh City Transportation Agency, Syaifuddin Ambia, explained that the development plan for the 11,717-square-meter land had actually been initiated since 2015 with a mixed land-use concept. In its master plan, the area is designed to be seven stories high, including two basement levels for terminal functions, a shopping center, and hotel facilities.
In addition to serving as a commercial center, the former Keudah Terminal area is also being prepared as an integrated transportation hub. This location will later function as the main transit point for urban public transportation and feeder services connecting various corridors in Banda Aceh.
Although the mega project was temporarily delayed because it had not yet secured a suitable investor, the city government is now taking tactical steps by clearing and temporarily fencing off the area. During this transitional arrangement phase, the vacant land will be utilized as a public space for community activities that have a positive impact on the local economy.
The city government is optimistic that this initial arrangement will increase the area's bargaining value in the eyes of investors. Besides having an adequate land area, the former Keudah Terminal holds high strategic value due to its location in the city center, its proximity to the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, the Peunayong commercial district, and directly facing the scenic Krueng Aceh river.
