The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah firmly stated its commitment to clamping down on all Hajj and Umrah travel organizers. This step was taken following findings regarding the practice of turning worship into a business venture at the public's expense.
Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, revealed that this policy is a follow-up to directions from President Prabowo Subianto. The government emphasized that Hajj and Umrah worship activities should not be treated as a commodity for the profit of certain parties.
"The President wants Hajj and Umrah not to be commodified. Simply put, the message is to stop commodifying religion," Dahnil said when providing statements at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory, Jakarta, on Monday (7/7/2026).
This enforcement will target the entire worship organization ecosystem, including travel agencies, Hajj and Umrah Guidance Groups (KBIHU), and Special Hajj Organizers (PIHK). The government ensures that each entity must return to its core duties and functions.
Dahnil placed special emphasis on KBIHU to refocus as spiritual guidance institutions for pilgrims. The government will not tolerate institutions engaging in deviant business activities outside the official authority established by regulations.
