The Bogor Regency Government is finalizing strategic plans for the development of a cable car transport system connecting the Summarecon area in Sukaraja District to the Gunung Mas Rest Area along the Puncak tourist route. This ambitious project is designed as an innovative solution to alleviate traffic congestion, which has long been a classic issue in the tourist destination.
Regent of Bogor, Rudy Susmanto, emphasized that this development will certainly not burden the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). Given the substantial investment required, reaching trillions of rupiah, the local government has chosen to open opportunities for public-private partnerships. Currently, the project is still in the feasibility study phase to ensure its operational effectiveness and sustainability.
Under the prepared scheme, the Bogor Regency Government will provide a 'park and ride' facility in the Summarecon area as the starting point or lower terminal. From there, tourists will switch to taking the cable car to the final destination at the Gunung Mas Rest Area. This step is expected to shift vehicular traffic volume from the highway to a more integrated aerial transit system.
In addition to the cable car, the local government has actually explored several other public transportation options, such as commuter rail (KRL). However, Rudy stressed the importance of being realistic regarding funding capacity. The main focus at present is to ensure the development concept remains objective and capable of delivering a positive impact on tourism connectivity in the Bogor Regency without compromising regional financial stability.
