President Prabowo Subianto received a state visit from the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/7/2026). This high-level meeting resulted in concrete commitments for both countries through the signing and announcement of 16 strategic cooperation documents involving government agencies and the private sector.
This agreement covers a broad spectrum of cooperation, ranging from peaceful space exploration through the synergy of BRIN and ISRO, to strengthening the defense sector through the procurement of the BrahMos missile system and air-to-air missiles. This step reflects the depth of bilateral relations which have now expanded to high-tech aspects and regional security.
In addition to defense and technology, cooperation between the two countries also touches on other crucial issues, such as disaster management, telecommunications, and food security in the agricultural sector. The governments of Indonesia and India also agreed to collaborate on electoral governance as well as more massive research and innovation for the future of both nations.
Social and cultural aspects also received attention with the conservation agreement for the Prambanan Temple Complex. In the economic sector, this strategic partnership is marked by the formation of a joint venture between PT Krakatau Steel and the Steel Authority of India Limited, which is expected to strengthen the national steel supply chain and increase the competitiveness of the mineral industries of both countries.
