PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Refinery Unit III, also known as the Plaju Refinery, officially hosted the 2026 Oil and Gas Sports Week (POM). The event, which took place at the Pertamina Plaju Complex (Komperta) from July 10 to 12, 2026, was attended by around 800 athletes from 17 companies and institutions under SKK Migas and Cooperation Contract Contractors (K3S) in the Southern Sumatra region (Sumbagsel).
A total of 13 sports disciplines were contested at the event, ranging from mini-soccer and swimming to esports. Executive General Manager of Plaju Refinery, Khabibullah Khanafie, stated that this event aimed to break down formal barriers among workers. Through interactions in the arena, it is hoped that cross-institutional work communication can become more solid, ultimately having a positive impact on operational effectiveness in the field.
Head of the South Sumatra Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Office, Hendriansyah, who opened the event, emphasized the importance of physical fitness for oil and gas workers. According to him, to achieve the national production target of one million barrels per day, human resources must not only be smart but also in prime physical condition. He hopes this event can boost workers' morale to contribute more optimally to national energy security.
Echoing this sentiment, Head of SKK Migas Sumbagsel Representative Office, Bambang Dwi Januarto, also reminded participants of the importance of safety and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. He stressed that the health of the athletes is the primary asset in fulfilling the mandate to maintain sustainable oil and gas production in the Sumbagsel region.
The 2026 Oil and Gas Sports Week is expected to be more than just a physical competition; it serves as a solid foundation to strengthen cross-sector collaboration. The synergy built on the sports field is projected to become a catalyst for the smooth operation of upstream oil and gas in the future.
