The General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of the Banten Regional Police has successfully uncovered an illegal used motorcycle trading syndicate operating within its jurisdiction. In this enforcement operation, the police secured 13 motorcycles strongly suspected to be the proceeds of aggravated theft.
The modus operandi carried out by this gang is highly systematic. The perpetrators were known to sell stolen motorcycles at low prices, ranging from Rp3 million to Rp5 million. To obscure the origin of the illicit goods, the perpetrators deliberately erased the frame number (VIN) and engine number using a grinder so that the vehicles' original identity could not be identified.
The Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Banten Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Dian Setyawan, revealed that the disclosure of this case began with the arrest of the main suspect, identified by the initial W. Initially, the suspect only admitted to involvement in four theft locations. However, the results of the investigation's development showed that this network had a wider scope of actions in various regions, including Kramatwatu and Cikupa.
Furthermore, the police are paying special attention to this case as the perpetrators not only worked in an organized manner but were also equipped with homemade firearms to carry out their actions. Currently, the police are continuing to investigate the connection between the seized evidence and other vehicle theft reports received by the Banten Regional Police.
