Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Erick Thohir expressed deep appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto's serious attention to the development of sports in Indonesia. According to Erick, the head of state holds a strategic view that sports are a crucial instrument in preserving national honor while simultaneously driving the national economy.
Erick made this statement following the inauguration ceremony for Senior High Leadership Officials at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Jakarta on Thursday (10/7). He emphasized that the government no longer views sports as a short-term activity, but rather as a sustainable investment through a more structured national training program (pelatnas).
President Prabowo, Erick added, understands that every athletic achievement on the international stage serves as an essential element in building the country's image or national branding. Furthermore, the sports sector is projected to make a significant contribution to the growth of the sports industry and the development of sport tourism in the country.
Furthermore, Erick stressed that government support is inclusive. The development focus is not directed solely at a single flagship sport, but encompasses all sports branches with the potential to raise the Red and White flag on the world stage. This strategy is expected to create a more competitive and professional sports ecosystem moving forward.
