Synergy of PDGI South Kalimantan and Gusti Hasan Aman Dental Hospital Provides Free Dental Care Services for Residents

PDGI South Kalimantan, together with Gusti Hasan Aman Dental Hospital and FKG ULM, held a dental health social service in Banjarmasin to raise public awareness and reduce caries rates.

The Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI) South Kalimantan Region, in collaboration with the Gusti Hasan Aman Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM) and the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) at Lambung Mangkurat University, held a social event titled "One Step for Health, One Smile for Banua." The event, centered in the Siring Menara Pandang area of Banjarmasin on Sunday (12/7/2026), aimed to increase public access to dental and oral health services.

A variety of free preventive and curative services were provided to the community, ranging from joint toothbrushing education, oral cavity examinations, fluoride application, to general health checkups such as blood sugar and cholesterol tests. In addition, the event partnered with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Banjarmasin City to facilitate a blood donation drive for attending residents.

Vice General Chairman of the PDGI Executive Board, drg. Gagah Daru Setiawan, highly appreciated this initiative. According to him, this step is a crucial strategy to suppress the prevalence of caries in Indonesia. He hopes that this structured model of community service can be replicated by all PDGI chapters in various regions to support national health programs.

Meanwhile, the Director of RSGM Gusti Hasan Aman, drg. Mashuda, expressed that dental health education in South Kalimantan is urgently needed. Given the geographical conditions of the region, which is dominated by swamp lands with high water acidity levels, residents tend to face a higher risk of developing cavities. This synergy is expected to provide sustainable health solutions for local residents.

Echoing this sentiment, the Dean of FKG ULM, drg. Maharani Laillyza Apriasari, stated that this event serves as an important platform for professional students to sharpen their clinical competencies through direct field experience. The collaboration between professional organizations, hospitals, and educational institutions is seen as a strategic move in creating professional medical personnel while delivering a tangible impact on the health of the Banua community.
