The student football contingent of Tanjungpinang City successfully achieved a proud milestone at the Regional Student Sports Week (POPDA) of the Riau Islands Province in 2026. The confirmation of securing the silver medal was obtained after the team coached by Nanang Sufrianto played to a goalless draw against Batam City in the final match held at Badang Perkasa Stadium on Tuesday (7/7/2026).

The match was highly intense from the opening minutes. Both teams displayed disciplined play and traded attacks, but until the final whistle blew, the 0-0 score remained unchanged. With this draw, Tanjungpinang collected seven points in the final standings, placing them second behind Lingga Regency, which took home the gold, while the bronze position was secured by Bintan Regency.

Tanjungpinang football team coach, Nanang Sufrianto, expressed his highest appreciation to the players. He assessed that the fighting spirit and discipline shown by his players throughout the 2 x 35 minutes were the main keys to their success in executing tactical instructions on the pitch.

Gratitude was also expressed by the Head of the Sports Performance Improvement Division of the Tanjungpinang City Dispora, Murdani Hadinata. He expressed pride in the maximum performance shown by the athletes under the pressure of a fierce match. This achievement was also welcomed positively by the team captain, Divo Lorenzo, who highlighted the importance of team cohesion as well as full support from the city government, particularly the Mayor of Tanjungpinang, H. Lis Darmansyah.

This achievement is expected to spark enthusiasm for student athletes in Tanjungpinang to continue developing their talent and sportsmanship. This success also reflects the continuous commitment of the Tanjungpinang City Government in supporting the youth sports development ecosystem in the region.
