An attempted burglary of an empty house in the Gunung Putri area, Bogor Regency, was successfully foiled by the homeowner on Saturday (4/7) early morning. The perpetrator, identified by the initials A, was apprehended by residents shortly after attempting to flee when caught carrying stolen property in the form of a pressure washer.
Gunung Putri Police Chief, Commissioner Hillal Adi Imawan, explained that the incident began when the homeowner grew suspicious upon seeing the gate to his residence open as he arrived home. Upon checking, the victim found the perpetrator carrying his pressure washer out of the house. Although the suspect tried to escape after being caught in the act, he was successfully restrained by residents before being handed over to the police.
During intensive questioning by investigators, the suspect A admitted to having operated four times at various locations in the Gunung Putri area. Interestingly, a number of previous thefts were claimed to have always ended amicably through informal settlements, where victims chose to forgive the suspect's actions.
Now, the police emphasize that they will not pursue a peaceful settlement in this case. The suspect has been officially detained and charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning theft. The perpetrator faces a potential penalty of up to seven years in prison and a maximum fine of IDR 500 million.
Furthermore, the police are still investigating the case, including examining witnesses and completing the investigation paperwork. Commissioner Hillal emphasized that investigators will thoroughly examine the suspect's motives to ensure the legal process proceeds according to applicable procedures.
