The Semarang Branch of BPJS Kesehatan is focusing on improving the quality of hemodialysis or blood washing services for National Health Insurance (JKN) participants. This step was taken in response to a 5.86 percent increase in the number of patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy, reaching a total of 12,342 cases this year in the Semarang and Demak regions.
Head of BPJS Kesehatan Semarang Branch, Sari Quratul Ainy, stated that her team is currently conducting a comprehensive evaluation of human resources (HR) capacity and procedural standards across various healthcare facilities. Currently, 286 hemodialysis machines are ready to ensure that the needs of JKN participants are optimally met.
In practice, hemodialysis patients will be directly managed by an Attending Physician (DPJP) consisting of internal medicine specialists who are kidney and hypertension consultants, or certified dialysis specialists. This measure aims to ensure that clinical conditions, dialysis adequacy evaluation, and medication therapy adjustments can be carried out accurately and responsibly.
In addition to curative aspects, BPJS Kesehatan also emphasizes the importance of preventive efforts through the use of the Mobile JKN application. Through the self-screening feature, participants can detect early risks of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension that could potentially lead to kidney failure. High-risk participants will be directed to First-Level Health Facilities (FKTP) for further treatment.
The Head of the Quality and Cost Control Team for the Semarang Branch, Sigid Kirana Lintang Bhima, highlighted the shifting trend of chronic diseases, which are now affecting younger age groups under 40. Therefore, he urged the strengthening of preventive programs, including the proposed development of 'Prolanis Muda', so that the rate of new hemodialysis patients can be significantly curbed in the future.
