Minister of Hajj (Menhaj) Irfan emphasized the importance of a comprehensive evaluation regarding the organization of the Hajj pilgrimage for the year 1447 AH/2026 AD. At the opening of the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) in East Jakarta, Saturday (4/7), he expressed appreciation for the success in reducing the pilgrim mortality rate by up to 25 percent compared to the previous period.
Despite showing a positive trend, Minister Irfan considers the number of pilgrims passing away in the Holy Land to still be relatively high. Therefore, he instructed the evaluation team to formulate much stricter health istitha'ah standards as a primary prerequisite for departure, to ensure that the safety and physical condition of the pilgrims are maintained during the pilgrimage.
In addition to the health sector, the Minister highlighted classic issues related to overcrowding and pilgrim comfort in Mina. He demanded his staff undertake a total overhaul and seek concrete solutions without hiding anything so that tent comfort issues can be resolved for the next Hajj season.
Alongside these critical notes, Irfan also acknowledged the success of several innovations this year, such as better-organized province-based quota management, BPIH efficiency, and service digitalization through the Nusuk Card. However, he reminded all ministry officials not to fall into complacency.
As a preparatory step to face more complex challenges in the future, the Ministry of Hajj plans to hold a special retreat for its employees post-Rakernas. This activity aims to strengthen synergy, vision, and internal bonds among all staff members so they are better prepared physically and mentally to provide professional and humanistic services.
Closing his remarks, Irfan expressed appreciation to all elements, including the PPIH as well as TNI and Polri personnel who worked hard to make this year's Hajj operations a success. He hopes the spirit of collaboration will be maintained to improve the quality of Indonesian Hajj services in the future.
