Volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau has once again shown a significant increase with a series of eruptions occurring throughout Friday afternoon. According to data from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the first eruption was observed at 16:42 WIB, which was then followed by three subsequent eruptions in quick succession until 17:51 WIB.
The spewed volcanic ash column reached heights between 100 and 250 meters above the peak, with thick black intensity. Based on wind direction monitoring, the ash material is moving to the north, northeast, and northwest. Seismograph recordings show this activity has a maximum amplitude ranging from 43 to 55.2 millimeters with eruption durations varying from 33 to 49 seconds.
Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in South Lampung, Andi Suwardi, confirmed that although the volcano's activity is fluctuating, its current status remains at Level III or Alert (Siaga). To date, authorities continue to conduct intensive monitoring in anticipation of larger follow-up volcanic activity.
As a mitigation measure, residents, tourists, fishermen, and climbers are strictly forbidden from engaging in any activities within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater. The public is asked to remain calm, continuously monitor information updates through official PVMBG channels, and not be influenced by unverified rumors.
