The Central Java Provincial Government recorded a success in the aquaculture sector through a grand harvest of vannamei shrimp at the Wijayakusuma Industrial Park (KIW), Semarang City, on Monday (6/7/2026). This innovation, managed by the Tugu Fish Seed and Aquaculture Center (PBI), proves that land in industrial areas can remain productive with the application of appropriate technology.
The 1,561-square-meter pond relies on a closed system to overcome limited water access in the industrial area. Head of the Central Java Marine Affairs and Fisheries Service, Endi Faiz Efendi, explained that the water used undergoes strict sterilization using dolomite, chlorine, and aeration. After a 82-day cultivation period, this harvest is projected to reach 1.3 tons with a size quality of 60 shrimp per kilogram.
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, who visited the site, emphasized the importance of optimizing state-owned fisheries centers as hubs for supplying superior seeds to the public. According to him, focusing on breeding will reduce production costs and accelerate business turnover for local farmers, which will ultimately strengthen regional food security.
Furthermore, the Central Java Provincial Government is currently preparing strategic steps to revitalize ponds along the North Coast. In coordination with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, around 72,000 hectares of traditionally managed pond land are planned to be revitalized into a more productive and efficient modern system.
