Bandung City became the center of attention for student-athletes from across West Java with the opening of the provincial-level National Student Sports Olympiad (O2SN) for senior high schools (SMA) and vocational high schools (SMK) at the Pajajaran Sports Field on Thursday (July 2, 2026). This prestigious event features hundreds of student delegates from 27 regencies/cities competing through July 3, 2026.
Head of the Vocational High School Development Division (PSMK) at the West Java Education Office, Edy Purwanto, emphasized that O2SN is not merely about securing victories. The competition is viewed as a strategic ecosystem to instill values of character, integrity, and sportsmanship, while serving as a talent scouting arena for potential athletes who will later represent West Java on the national stage.
Edy shared an important note for the participants, urging future winners advancing to the national stage to make full use of the next two months for thorough preparation. According to him, dedication to training is the main key to maximizing talent to compete effectively against participants from other provinces.
Five sports are being contested in this year's event: athletics, sport climbing, badminton, pencak silat, and swimming. The selection of these sports is expected to tap into the potential of young athletes from various school and regional backgrounds across West Java.
On the occasion, Edy also stressed the importance of maintaining physical health and stamina throughout the competition. He hopes all athletes will not solely focus on the final results, but also prioritize their health and demonstrate professional sportsmanship as representations of outstanding students from West Java.
