The Palembang City Government is committed to strengthening cooperation with the local Indonesian Community Sports Committee (KORMI). This strategic step was taken as a concrete effort to mainstream an active lifestyle culture while elevating the potential of recreational sports that hold local wisdom values within the community.
Mayor of Palembang, Ratu Dewa, during the inauguration of KORMI's management for the 2026-2030 period, emphasized that community sports are not just a means of maintaining physical fitness. He hopes that KORMI can create an inclusive and joyful sports ecosystem, and be able to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among residents across various age groups.
Furthermore, Ratu Dewa demanded that the new KORMI management not merely carry out ceremonial agendas. He encouraged innovation in work programs that are realistic, measurable, and have a direct impact on the community. The main focus is to involve the younger generation and local communities so that interest in sports grows organically and sustainably.
Responding to these directives, the General Chairperson of KORMI South Sumatra, Samantha Tivani, emphasized the importance of organizational adaptability in responding to public needs. According to her, KORMI has a strategic responsibility to facilitate citizen participation in traditional and recreational sports that define the regional identity.
This collaboration is expected to provide a double impact, namely the creation of productive human resources and the development of other supporting sectors. KORMI is now encouraged to package sports activities into attractions capable of driving the wheels of the creative economy and supporting the tourism sector in Palembang City.
