The Padang City Government continues to strengthen its commitment to improving public health standards through promotive and preventive approaches. This strategic step was seen when the Mayor of Padang, Fadly Amran, received a courtesy visit from the former First Deputy Minister of Health of Malaysia, Datuk Dr. Noor Azmi, in the Berok Nipah area, West Padang, on Saturday (4/7/2026).
During the meeting, the two figures discussed the importance of health education as the frontline in combating the prevalence of non-communicable diseases. Datuk Dr. Noor Azmi, who has a significant track record in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia, emphasized that a healthy lifestyle can only be formed on a massive scale if the community receives proper literacy from an early age through cross-sector collaboration.
This event was also coupled with a social action of free health check-ups initiated by Amway, which included checks for blood sugar levels, uric acid, and Body Mass Index (BMI). This initiative received a positive response from local residents who enthusiastically took advantage of the early detection access as a preventive effort against the risk of degenerative diseases.
Amway Executive Diamond, Yenni Gunawan, highlighted the urgency of gut health education in Indonesia. Given the high rate of colon cancer cases in the country, her party is committed to continuing to raise public awareness through continuous education and the provision of health products that have been halal-certified and meet international standards.
The Mayor of Padang, Fadly Amran, welcomed this synergy as part of the acceleration of the flagship program 'Padang Melayani'. According to him, the presence of this international health figure provides a new perspective for the Padang City Government in strengthening the 'Dokter Warga' program, which aims to bring medical services closer to being more inclusive and accessible to all levels of society.
This collaboration is expected to be a momentum for Padang City to be more adaptive in building an education-based health system, which will ultimately reduce morbidity rates and improve the overall quality of life of the community.
