The Ksatria Airlangga Hospital Ship (RSKKA) has once again launched a humanitarian mission to reach communities in frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions. Carrying out the 2026 RSKKA Service Program, this phinisi vessel set sail from the KPLP Pier at Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, on Sunday (12/7/2026) bound for several island points in Sumenep Regency, East Java.
During the period from July 12 to 25, 2026, the medical team will visit Bluto District, Raas Island, Karamian Island, and Masalembu Island. The mission brings 37 medical personnel, including seven specialists in surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, ophthalmology, and obstetrics and gynecology, to address healthcare access challenges long faced by island residents.
President Director of RSKKA, Agus Harianto, emphasized that RSKKA's presence is an effort to reverse the flow of healthcare services. While residents usually have to risk their lives crossing rough seas to seek treatment, now the hospital proactively comes to the patients. The 27x7 meter vessel is equipped with two operating rooms, X-ray facilities, and a laboratory to handle serious medical procedures down to minor surgeries.
The success of this mission is supported by various parties, including the Australian Government through the Direct Aid Program. In addition, BPJS Kesehatan provides financial compensation for services in areas categorized as Regions Without Eligible Health Facilities (DBTFMS), as a concrete form of expanding national health insurance into remote areas of the country.
Not only focusing on curative care, the East Java Provincial Government through the Health Office is also integrating a digital-based health detection system into this voyage. Each patient's medical data will be recorded digitally and linked to BPJS Kesehatan, ensuring that the health status of island communities can be monitored continuously from the regency to the provincial level.
