The Muhammadiyah organization has once again made a significant contribution on the international stage through its active participation in a high-level meeting organized by the WHO Regional Office for Europe. Held in Istanbul, Turkey, on July 1-2, 2026, the forum focused on strengthening global health security systems, particularly in responding to earthquake disaster threats.
On that occasion, the Coordinator of the Muhammadiyah Emergency Medical Team (EMT), Dr. Corona Rintawan, was appointed as an expert panelist. His presence before more than 250 delegates from 40 countries—including health ministers and disaster mitigation experts—affirms the global recognition of Muhammadiyah's credibility in global humanitarian missions.
The two-day discussion addressed crucial strategies such as the development of disaster-safe hospitals, strengthening the capacity of emergency medical teams (EMTs), and optimizing digital technology in crisis management. This synergy also involved the Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, who attended the Ministerial Roundtable to agree on the Istanbul Outcome Statement as a global commitment to strengthening health system resilience.
Responding to this achievement, the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Board, Syafiq A. Mughni, expressed his appreciation. According to him, this international trust is tangible proof of the organization's dedication to implementing inclusive, cross-border humanitarian values.
Dr. Corona Rintawan emphasized that Muhammadiyah's involvement in this WHO forum serves as momentum to strengthen global collaboration. Moving forward, Muhammadiyah is committed to continuously improving medical service standards and disaster management team capacity to be more adaptive and responsive in facing future disaster challenges.
