Ahead of the 10th National Sports Games to be held in Ho Chi Minh City in late 2026, the Hai Phong City government is now massively focusing resources on improving the performance of its high-achieving athletes. This quadrennial event is considered a key benchmark for measuring the effectiveness of regional investment in high-level sports development.
The Hai Phong Sports Training and Competition Center has established a strategic roadmap comprising intensive training programs and sending athletes abroad to countries such as Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia. This move aims to sharpen their techniques, competitive mindset, and gain experience competing against tough regional rivals.
Positive results throughout 2025—where the Hai Phong contingent successfully brought home 1,551 medals from 219 competitions and set seven records—serve as a strong foundation of confidence. Key sports disciplines such as rowing, archery, shooting, wrestling, and weightlifting are receiving top priority in funding and intensive training programs.
In addition to supporting the main team, Hai Phong also relies on around 100 athletes and coaches currently being honed within the national team ecosystem. The synergy between professional expertise and government support is expected to propel Hai Phong into the national top five while creating sustainable momentum for the advancement of the city's sports ecosystem.
