The name of property businessman Tan Kian has once again caught the public's attention after he answered a summons from investigators as a witness in a series of alleged corruption cases. Known as a pioneer behind a line of grand skyscrapers in Jakarta, he has a long track record that frequently intersects with the country's legal dynamics.
Tan Kian is a central figure behind Dua Mutiara Group, which later transformed into Century Properties Group Indonesia. His business focus has long been concentrated on developing elite areas in Jakarta, particularly along the Sudirman and Mega Kuningan corridors. His portfolio includes iconic premium properties such as Pacific Place, JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta, and The Ritz-Carlton, which serve as benchmarks for luxury in the capital.
Before dominating the high-end property sector, Tan Kian began his business journey in commodity trading, specifically shrimp and textiles. His strategic expansion into the property sector through mixed-use concepts and luxury apartments successfully propelled him to become one of Indonesia's most influential businessmen, with an estimated net worth reaching hundreds of millions of US dollars. Beyond Jakarta, he also ventured into township development through the Millennium City project in the Parung Panjang area of Bogor.

However, the case ended with the issuance of an Investigation Termination Warrant (SP3) in 2009 after the disputed funds were returned and the asset ownership status was resolved through a Supreme Court decision.
