President Prabowo Subianto delivered a firm message regarding the commitment to national economic development during the peak celebration of the 79th Cooperative Day at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, Sunday (12/7). In his speech, the President invited all elements of society to continue working together and close ranks in facing the challenging dynamics of the global economy.
The number one man in Indonesia emphasized the importance of an optimistic attitude for every citizen. He even made an open statement for those who feel pessimistic about the future prospects of the Indonesian economy to choose another path, as an effort to maintain national consolidation in building a stronger economic foundation.
However, the government's call comes alongside economic data showing a contraction trend. Bank Indonesia recorded a decline in the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) for three consecutive months, where in June 2026 the index stood at 117.8, down from the previous month which reached 120.9. This reflects a weakening public perception of domestic economic stability.
The capital market and monetary sectors also experienced similar pressure. Up to the close of trading on July 10, 2026, the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) fell to the level of 5,924.36, with a year-to-date (YTD) correction reaching 32.3 percent. Meanwhile, the rupiah exchange rate still faces quite heavy external pressure, hovering around Rp18,113 per US dollar.
The gap between the government's narrative of optimism and the reality of macroeconomic indicators has become the focus of observers. Efforts to strengthen economic fundamentals, improve public purchasing power, and restore investor confidence are urgent homework to curb market volatility and ensure national economic growth remains maintained amidst global uncertainty.
