Welcoming the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the Class IIA Batam Correctional Institution (Lapas) officially opened the Prisoners' Sports Week (Porsenap) on Friday (31/7/2026). This event was enthusiastically attended by representatives of inmates from various residential blocks as part of efforts to improve personality development.
The opening of this sports event was led directly by the Head of Class IIA Batam Lapas, Yosafat Rizanto, at the main field of the Lapas. A symbolic balloon release marked the start of the competition, which was greeted with cheers and loud applause from the participants and officers present.
In his briefing, Yosafat emphasized that Porsenap is not just a physical competition, but a strategic tool to build a positive character in inmates. Through sports, they are taught important values such as sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and togetherness, which are expected to maintain their physical and mental health during their sentences.
This year, Lapas Batam's Porsenap features six sports: futsal, volleyball, badminton, sepak takraw, chess, and dominoes. All matches are scheduled to take place gradually under strict supervision from officers to ensure safety, order, and the smooth running of the event.
During the opening, the Head of Lapas also reminded that this independence momentum is closely related to the granting of General Remissions for inmates who meet administrative and substantive requirements. He urged all inmates to continue showing good behavior, obey the rules, and actively participate in rehabilitation programs so that their remission rights can be obtained.
