Governor of Maluku, Hendrik Lewerissa, has high hopes for the Indonesian Women's Sports Association (Perwosi) of Maluku Province to boost the achievements of female athletes in the region. This was conveyed during the inauguration and confirmation ceremony of the Perwosi board for the 2025–2030 period, led by the Chairman of KONI Maluku, Sam Latuconsina, in Ambon on Monday (6/7/2026).
In his address, Governor Hendrik emphasized that this inauguration is not merely a routine formality. He requested the new board to immediately conduct a solid organizational consolidation to ensure that athlete development programs run consistently and measurably. According to him, success in the sports sector cannot be achieved in isolation; instead, it requires cross-sector collaboration among the government, academia, the business world, and the role of the mass media.
Drawing inspiration from the achievements of Maluku's track and field athletes, such as Gischa Imanuela Saimima, who frequently wins gold at the national level, the Governor believes that the potential of female athletes in Maluku is immense. He stressed that targeted training and development support is the key to turning this potential into tangible achievements that make the region proud on both national and international stages.
Furthermore, Hendrik views sports as a vital instrument in human resource empowerment. Beyond the competitive aspect, he encouraged Perwosi to actively campaign for a healthy lifestyle so that the women of Maluku possess better physical resilience, mental health, and self-confidence.
As a strategic step, the Governor hopes that Perwosi Maluku can expand the reach of its development programs to all regencies and cities in the province. With an independent and sustainable sports ecosystem, he is optimistic that this organization will become an effective partner for the government in shaping a superior and highly competitive generation of Maluku women.
